Orly Space Cadet: Dark Rainbow Nail Polish

Space Cadet is from Orly's "Cosmic FX" line that was launched in Fall 2010. Although it is limited edition, I was able to pick it up yesterday at my local Ulta. It seems to be Orly's most talked about nail polish- I've seen it and heard it mentioned in so many YouTube videos, I've read about it on blogs, etc... I can totally see what all the fuss is about- IT'S GORGEOUS!!!!

Have you ever seen a puddle of oil sitting on asphalt, glistening in the sun? And you know how it's a dark-rainbow color? Like you can see all the colors of the rainbow but they're darker in a way? Or have you ever seen a black beetle with a dark iridescent exo-skeleton? Well that's exactly what Space Cadet looks like. I guess the base itself is mostly a dark forest green, but there are so many iridescent/holographic effects to this gorgeous duo-chrome polish that it looks all different colors in different lighting and in different angles. And there's this gorgeous micro-shimmer floating through it that gives it a super shiny mirror effect. Space Cadet looks a greenish golden bronze with amber-gold glitter running through it in daylight. In more dim lighting, it appears to be an amethyst violet color with pink glitter. This is one of the prettiest, most interesting nail polishes I've ever encountered. One coat is kinda sheer, but then it builds up intensity and reaches opacity in about 2 or 3 coats, although I like to wear more because I like my polish a little bit thicker.

It's just as difficult to photograph as it is to describe lol... In my opinion, it looks a lot like Chanel's Period Nail Polish from their new Fall collection. I definitely recommend Orly's Space Cadet to anyone that enjoys more unique nail polishes. It's really fun but it still has a certain sophistication to it. It's really nice layered on other nail polishes, so far I've really enjoyed it over any black polish. Later on I'll experiment with glitter top coats over Space Cadet. This color was from Orly's Mineral FX collection or whatever, so it was a little pricier than their usual polishes, at $10, but Ulta often has special deals going on and coupons available. Here's Ulta's Orly Nail Polish Web Page: http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=xlsImpprod1460066#sku2220656

I took the pictures on my own. It was kinda difficult to effectively photograph this color, but check out this blog post- it has amazing pictures of Space Cadet: http://www.lacquerized.com/2010/09/orly-space-cadet-sci-fi-on-your-nails.html

Hard Candy Blush Crush Baked Blush in Honeymoon

Wal-Mart started carrying Hard Candy products just a couple of years ago... FYI: Hard Candy is Urban Decay's little sister line (hence the cute packaging). I used to love the Hard Candy products that were carried at Sephora a long time ago- those were a little pricier and better quality for the most part, but the Hard Candy line at Wal-Mart is awesome quality too. It's pretty amazing for being drug-store stuff.

That being said: I LOVE their baked blushes, bronzers, and even their baked eyeshadows. The pigmentation isn't that amazing, but I love the texture and consistency of these products. These dome-shaped pressed mineral powders are pretty finely milled and remind me a lot of MAC's Mineralized products, like their Skin-Finishes. I love that they're satin-y and frosty at the same time. They have a pretty gleam to them when on the skin, but aren't too shimmery or frosty at all.

My favorite "Blush Crush" is in the shade "Honeymoon." It's supposed to be a blush, and it is- for very very pale skin-tones. I have a medium skin-tone though, so "Honeymoon" shows up more as a glowing peachy-pinkish highlight. I LOVE THAT. I recommend a firm brush when applying this stuff, because it's not easily picked up by some softer brushes. I tend to just use a finger to put this stuff on sometimes. Yeah, I really like this product. It was only like 7 or 8 bucks, and it'll last you a while. Try it out next time you're at Wal-Mart :]

Revlon Super-Lustrous Lipgloss in Shine City

I went to Wal-Mart the other day with my sister... We just went to pick up some stuff because we were bored. I really like Super-Lustrous lipglosses from Revlon, and I saw this one there next to the others. I thought it was really pretty. Shine City is a really really transparent pink-ish gloss with some really pretty micro-shimmer running through it. When you put this stuff on though, it literally just shows up as clear gloss. I was hoping the shimmer would show up, but it really doesn't. In the tube, it looks sort of like some of Chanel's shimmery transparent pink Glossimers that they've put out in the past, but no. It's just clear. It'd probably be nice to wear on top of a lipstick or a lip liner, but on it's own, it just adds a bit of shine. I'm not complaining though. I feel like you can never have too many clear lip glosses, and being a Revlon Super-Lustrous gloss, it's not sticky at all, unscented, and only like $7. It's great to just throw into your bag for when you out and you need a little something on the lips. You know what I mean? I think I'll play around with this gloss a bit more- maybe I'll like it better in daytime in the sunlight.... Or in pictures... Or something like that :]

MAC's Lipliner in "Naked Liner"

The other day I was at the MAC counter picking up some lipsticks when I saw this lipliner sitting in their lipliner cup. The color really caught my eye, cuz I LOVE my nudes<3333 In the past, I haven't been a big fan of lipliner (chola, anyone?), I've just been happy with lipsticks and lipglosses. And I thought that most lipliners tended to be way darker than what I liked. Naked Liner though, is different- it's super light. It's even lighter than MAC's Myth Lipstick. Naked Liner is similar in color to NARS' Madere Matte Lipstick in that it's a super-pale pinky beige nude. I know a lot of people are scared of the "concealer lips" look, and I don't like that look at all either. Naked Liner is just great for nude-ing or blanking out your lips before applying a lipstick so that there's a nude base, and so that the lipstick's color can show true without competing with your natural lipcolor. It's just really nice for lightening up a lip look, and I love the lasting power of it. It can look kinda chalky on your lips if they're dry so I totally recommend putting on some lipbalm a few minutes before putting Naked Liner on. The color is so gorgeous- a lot of times I'll use it to highlight my cupid's bow and the center of my bottom lip when I'm wearing a nude lip look. I've even heard of some people wearing this on their eyes in the waterline, but that's a whole other story... Yeah so if you like nude lips, or are looking for something to lighten up some of your current lippies, check out Naked Liner. I like it a LOT more than I thought I would, believe me :]
(I took a picture of the lipliner on my computer desk. I think the flash kinda washed the lipliner out, but you get the idea.)

Makeup Porn :]

I was doing my friend's makeup the other night before we went out... I let her go through some of my makeup to let her choose what she wanted me to put on her... (She went a bit overboard)... Of course we were taking pictures of ourselves... and I liked how all the makeup looked so I took a picture of it really quick :] If you want a review on anything, let me know :]

Tokidoki Prisma Lip Gloss in Donutella

Yes, I'm a total sucker for nude lippies. If it's nude, I need it. Tokidoki's Prisma Gloss in Donutella was no exception. It appears to be a little darker than most nudes I tend to go for, but it's seriously SO SHEER that that barely makes a difference. Despite it's appearance in the tube, this stuff goes on pretty much clear. It's definitely not a must-have by any means, but the packaging is super cute, as all Tokidoki products are. It's a square-shaped tube and it has a little "snow-globe" at the top of it, with the "Donutella" character inside of it surrounded by loose Tokidoki confetti and glitter and rhinestones and who-knows-what-else... The unique thing about Tokidoki glosses is that they don't come with a doe-foot or brush applicator, the applicator is actually a little plastic paddle that taps or spreads the gloss onto your lips. I also love that their glosses smell like blueberries. Check out the Prisma glosses next time your at your local Sephora!!!

MAKEUP FOREVER's Rouge Artist Intense #22

MAKEUP FOREVER launched their Rouge Artist Intense line last year... I think it's an AMAZING line- the lipsticks are SO pigmented, and there are SOOOOOO many colors to choose from. And I love the textures- they have matte, satin, and pearl, so there's literally a lipstick for everyone in this line :] OF COURSE I go straight for the nudes (I only wear nudes). #22 is THE PRETTIEST nude lipstick I've seen in a LONG time, and it's currently my absolute FAVORITE!!!! It's a satin flesh-toned nude. It's got some warm peachy undertones but warm and cool-toned people can wear this color easily. #22 is a satin, and LET ME TELL YOU- MUFE's satins are soooooo much better than MAC's satin's. This stuff is smooth but not slippery, and it's super-pigmented without being drying or chalky. It's so moisturizing that it feels like lip balm :] I feel like if Brigitte Bardot had to pick a lipstick from this line, she'd pick #22 :] If you want a cheaper dupe, I'd recommend MAC's Creme d'Nude or Revlon's Soft Nude. Seriously though, next time you're in Sephora, check these babies out and give em a swatch or two. You'll probably love them!!! I'm definitely going back for more, whether I need them or not :]

Black, Blue-Green and Purple Makeup Look

A couple of weeks back, QueenOfBlending had a makeup contest on Twitter, and the theme was "Black, Blue-Green and Purple." I threw some things on, then kept adding stuff. It wasn't my absolute best but I thought it was fun, and I really liked the colors together :] I used a lot of different things, but a majority of the products were from MAC, NARS and MAKEUPFOREVER.

Nails of the Day... OPI Baby It's Coal Outside with Wet N Wild's Kaleidoscope

I just found the upload cord for my camera and I wanted to upload this picture really quick. I took a picture of my nails the other day. This is a nail polish look I've been enjoying lately- the base is OPI's Baby It's Coal Outside, which is a black cream with silver shimmer and multi-colored reflects. Then on top of it, I put my new favorite holographic glitter polish from Wet N Wild, "Kaleidoscope." (I've done reviews of both polishes on here...) I'm not good at photography at all, I just wanted to share this combination. And don't mind the band-aid lol... I had a tiny scrape from a piece of glass... But yeah, this is what I really like on my nails right now :] I'll hopefully start taking more of my own pictures now instead of using Google images so often lol

Chanel Cosmetics Fall 2011: Illusion d'Ombres

Chanel's latest cosmetics launch: Illusion d'Ombres (Illusion of Shadows) has just recently hit stores for Fall. I'm a huge fan of Chanel makeup, and I love that they've introduced some new products this season- I've been wanting some new textures lately, and I like that this line has a little bit of something for everyone. The standout item this season is the cream shadow, which is a silicone-gel formula. They're supposed to be "intensely shimmery" and really easy to blend. It's available in six shades, they look as though they'll be gorgeous either on their own, or layered with other products to create the perfect smokey eye look. I haven't been to the mall in like a week or so, so I haven't had the chance to see this collection in person yet. I'm curious as to how the cream shadows will wear. I've heard some rumors that these are supposed to be Chanel's version of Giorgio Armani's "Eyes to Kill" Silk Shadows, which I believe are beautiful as well. The Chanel cream shadows, however are a little more pricey, though they do come with a brush I've heard. I really love the color palette of this collection- and I love that the concept of the collection is loosely based on the ever-popular smokey eye, pinky nude lip concept. I'm excited for this collection, but I think the cream shadows are of course overpriced at almost $40 each. ($36+tax) So what do you think so far? Don't these pieces look enticing? I can't wait to swatch them :]

Justin Bieber's "Someday" vs. Marc Jacobs' "Lola"

Okay so a while back I got an email from Sephora introducing Justin Bieber's new fragrance "Some Day." I instantly realized it looked a LOT like my bottle of Lola by Marc Jacobs. I haven't smelled Justin's new perfume yet, but I already have an idea in my head that it'll smell really fake and nauseating. I tend to not like celebrity fragrances- Kim K, Paris, JLo and Usher should leave the perfuming to Chanel, Dior and Gucci. Seriously. Okay that got off topic. I'll have to do a separate post on that later. But yeah, I think Mr. Bieber should've chosen a more original design to house his fragrance. Well, that's just my opinion... what does everyone else think?

A Current Dislike: Forever 21

I've recently been kind of annoyed with Forever 21. I don't hate this store, and I do shop there every once in a while, but there are just some things that I cannot stand about this company. Mainly, they're return policy. Or should I say... exchange policy. Hahahahaha I don't pay attention to it anymore, but last time I looked at the receipt I think the policy said that you could exchange something with tags on with the receipt within 7 days? But accessories are all final sale? And you can't return anything at all? Yeah this is a horrible policy. You should be able to return or exchange any unworn items with tags still attached and receipt within at least 30 days. Yeah? YEAH. And it sucks that their garments start to look old after like 2 or 3 washes hahahaha... And their jewelry turns green and falls apart easily. Yeah, they have cute trendy stuff, and I do like it, but the quality of the products is horrible and the "return" policy is horrendous. I've really been into H&M though lately, lol... Okay all of these statements are just my opinion... What do you think? Do you agree? Disagree? Let me know :]

Beth Ditto: My Number One Style Icon and Inspiration

I first heard about Beth Ditto a few years ago, when I read an article about her in NYLON Magazine. I fell in love with her instantly. For those who don't know- she's the frontwoman of the band "The Gossip." She's very well-known for being really outspoken and I love her edgy, avant-garde style. She's very talented and has a gorgeous and powerful voice. Beth is constantly changing the way she looks, and she always has very unique style. What I love most about her though is that she doesn't like her size hold her back- she wears what she wants and she looks damn good in it all. She's not uncomfortable wearing certain things just because she's not a size zero. I find Beth to be a great inspiration in that you don't have to be a size 0 to be beautiful. She came from humble beginnings living in Arkansas to being a famous singer and style icon that hangs out with Karl Lagerfeld and Kate Moss. She's also a rights activist for the LGBT community. I posted some quotes of hers below, and I linked the page I got them from below. I got the pictures of her off of Google Images. If you want to learn more about her, Google her :] And listen to The Gossip!!! You can watch their music videos on YouTube, as well as Beth's solo stuff...

“To be thin and to stay really thin, sometimes… some people literally do coke all the time. Some people smoke cigarettes instead of eating. That’s crazy. But that’s ‘okay’ because you look healthier.”

“I’m not an unhealthy person and I feel like one of the most tiring parts of being fat and being proud of it is… you do a lot of proving yourself all the time."

“It’s really interesting to me that people will look at a thin person and go, ‘That’s a healthy person’. I want to go, ‘Come open my refrigerator and look and then let’s talk about what you think is so bad’.

Sephora Haul... NARS, Urban Decay, and Tokidoki

This is the haul before my last haul... from a couple of weeks ago. I was bored that day and felt like shopping, and of course I love NARS :] I bought a new NARS Sheer Matte Foundation and a few blushes... I picked up an eyeshadow duo in Cordura for my mom since she liked mine... And I thought I'd try a Tokidoki lip gloss because it was cute :] I also picked up a duo of Urban Decay Primer Potions- I like to change mine out often for cleanliness reasons, and I thought I'd try another color besides the original. I'll be doing a few product reviews on some of the things I picked up... My favorite thing out of this stuff was NARS' blush in Madly... It's gorgeous<3333

Wet 'N Wild's Wild Shine Nail Polish in "Kaleidoscope"

This nail polish is absolutely PHENOMENAL!!!! Go to Wal-Mart as soon as you can and buy it!!!! It's a clear nail polish with holographic glitter floating through it. This glitter is mostly silver, but shines all different colors in the light. I like to layer Kaleidoscope on top of other nail polishes but I think it's much prettier on it's own. I usually put a few layers on to build up the intensity of the glitter. This stuff is eye-catchingly beautiful and it's ONLY like a dollar or two!!!! It's a perfect dupe for China Glaze's Nail Polish in Fairy Dust, but I actually prefer the WNW version :] I'll be posting pictures with this stuff on pretty soon- the picture I'm putting up from Google doesn't do this polish any justice... This stuff is so gorgeous and so inexpensive that I'll definitely be buying more soon :]

YSL's Matte and Radiant Pressed Powder

YSL's Matte and Radiant Pressed Powder is pretty amazing. I bought it a whiiiiiiile ago, maybe a year or two back. I haven't really used this stuff very much, so I just recently found it in the back of one of my makeup drawers the other day. I don't know what I haven't used it more often!!! This powder feels SOOOOO soft and smooth and velvety on the skin. It actually feels kind of moisturizing, if you can believe that- so I'm pretty sure that it'd even work for dry skin. When I use it, it cuts shine but it doesn't have me looking awkardly/overly matte, which I like. And the packaging is super cute too- it's a golden square-shaped compact with "YSL" on the front of it, and when you open it up, the powder itself is stamped with a heart with "Yves Saint Laurent" embossed on it. Tres chic<333333

Deborah Lippman Glitter Nail Polish in "Happy Birthday"

Happy Birthday by Deborah Lippman is currently my favorite nail polish!!!! It's soooooooo gorgeous... If you aren't familiar with this stuff, swatch it next time you're at Nordstrom or somewhere that carries DL polishes... It's a clear gel base that's densely packed with lots and lots of multi-colored glitter. It's seriously one of the prettiest, most interesting polishes I've ever seen, and I've really been into glitter polishes lately. It really pops when layered over a base color, especially black, but I really enjoy just wearing Happy Birthday on it's own. It's so fun and it looks AMAZING when sparkling in the sunlight<33333 Yeah, I agree, $20 for a nail polish is a lot. However, I feel like you can get sooooooo many uses out of this one bottle that it's totally worth it in the end. But, if you're a budget shopper, Wet N Wild has a perfect dupe for Happy Birthday called "Party of Five Glitters," which is much cheaper at only $2 a bottle! They're literally just about the same thing. I've just found, though, in the past that some Wet N Wild polishes tend to chip easily though so if you want a longer lasting manicure when using their products, I just recommend using a good quality top coat. Let me know what you think about Happy Birthday!!! Are you into glitter polishes too? :]

Neutrogena's Redness Soothing Oil-Free Acne Wash (Cream Cleanser)

Whenever I go to Wal-Mart, I have this tendency of just throwing a bunch of different facial cleansers into my cart- I love trying new things. You never know when you'll find an amazing drug-store product, and I honestly believe you can never have too many facial cleansers. I always alternate the ones I use too- I've heard it's better for your skin and I get bored of using the same things over and over again. One of the products I've tried out recently has been this "Redness Soothing Oil-Free Acne Wash" from Neutrogena. I liked the color of the packaging, and the idea that it might reduce any redness. I don't have a problem with acne, but I will wake up with the occasional blemish (or two) every once in a while. I don't have a huge problem with redness either, I'm naturally kinda tan so this isn't a big problem unless I'm really hot or I've over-exfoliated or something like that.

Okay, with all that being said: I neither LIKE nor DISLIKE this product. It's in my shower, and I use it every once in a while. I haven't noticed it making any difference in the texture or appearance of my skin, but it contains menthol which is kind of refreshing, especially now that it's starting to get warmer. If you have sensitive skin, you probably won't like the mentholated feeling it'll give you when using it. I called it cooling and refreshing but you may call it burning and irritating.
The packaging just says "Acne Wash," it didn't say whether it'd be a foaming or creamy cleanser. I think I would enjoy this product much more if it were a foaming cleanser. I feel like when you lather up a face wash, it cleans much more and gets into the pores better. I feel like cream cleansers kinda just sit on the surface of the skin and don't do much for removing oil or dead skin or bacteria or anything along those lines. I feel like foaming cleansers are better for oily skin and cream cleansers are better for dry skin, but I like to use either kind depending on the situation.

Okay I've rambled on enough. Do I recommend this product? Not really. Unless you want something kinda refreshing and you don't have particularly sensitive skin. There are much better drug store cleansers out there, you just have to try them all out and find which ones work for you best. Will I re-purchase this item? Maybe. It's not a horrible product, and it's refreshing- I like to use it when my face doesn't need too heavy of a cleanser. And it's always available at Wal-Mart and I believe it's under $8. I'll probably buy the foaming cleanser version of this product next time.

Let me know if you've tried this product and whether you like it or not. We all have different skin-types and different preferences so it's nice to know what other people think about this product :]

(I used a picture I found on Google because it's a lot easier than photographing and uploading pictures of a product on my own :] I've sourced the link to the picture beloooooowwwwww)

NARS Pressed Powder in Beach

NARS' Pressed Powder is not a very good value for the price. I only bought it because, stupidly, I'm just obsessed with anything that says NARS. I liked the compact because it's big and has a nice sized mirror, but is still thin and sleek enough to fit into a pocket or clutch easily. The powder inside is okay- it's like any other powder in that it sets your foundation nicely and keeps you from getting shiny too fast. I prefer NARS' powder foundation for setting my liquid foundation though, because it's so light and non-cakey and gives more coverage. This pressed powder is just better for touch-ups when you're out and you get shiny. It's has a nice finely-milled texture, but then again, what doesn't these days? Lol... The compact only contains 8 grams but was about $35. Another thing that SUCKS about this product is that it only comes in like 4 shades. I understand these shades are supposed to be universal and whatnot, but only 4!?!? I'm just glad I had a match lol... In their foundations, I'm Barcelona, so I'm Beach in this powder. Yeah, this stuff's not the best when it comes to "bang-for-your-buck," but what can you do... I guess this stuff is just for the NARS-obsessed or for someone who really likes sleek packaging. But if you're looking for an exceptional product, this is not one. Lol. I know this review or whatever wasn't particularly positive, but I'm just saying what I think about the product :] I love NARS makeup, but this definitely isn't one of their best products, at all.
(I hate trying to get pictures just right when I photograph the items, so I just use pictures I've found from Google Images, which I've sourced below!!!!!)

Chanel's Double Perfection Compact Powder Foundation

Chanel's Double Perfection Powder Foundation is a product that has been in and out of my life for years now. I remember the first time I ever bought this stuff must have been when I was like 16. I've always loved powder foundation because my skin tends to be kinda oily, and it's really easy to carry and apply on the go. I also like that powder foundations tend to give a nice "soft focus" effect to the skin while still looking much more natural than most liquid and cream foundations. I've thought a little bit about it, and I think the thing I do enjoy most about this stuff, though, is the beautiful glossy black case with the white interlocking C Chanel logo in the center of it. It's so pretty and looks nice when you pull it out of your bag to look at yourself and touch up. It has nice coverage, and great staying power, and what I think separates this stuff from most other powder foundation is it's ability to be layered without getting too cakey. It looks very natural when buffed into the skin and it keeps me from getting shiny which is a major PLUS. Yes, it's nice, but I honestly don't feel as though it's worth the $55. It's a wonderful product, but I feel like it's not TOO far superior of MAC's Studio Fix Powder Foundation, or many other department store powder foundations, for that matter. I've always thought, though, that you do indeed get what you pay for when you buy makeup, and I'll leave it at that :] So what do you think about Chanel's Double Perfection Powder Foundation? Do you think it's much better than anything else? Or do agree with me in saying it's a lot like the others? What's your favorite powder foundation? Let me know what you think :]

Chanel Rouge Allure in Mythic #69

I just recently started to get back into Chanel makeup. I have to admit I really really wanted to buy a Rouge Allure Lipstick just because of the packaging. You press the gold interlocking C symbol at the top of the case to release the lipstick, and the black case itself is glass, I believe. Needless to say, it is GORGEOUS. Of course I ONLY ever wear nudes, usually light to medium beiges with neutral undertones. And that's exactly what Mythic is :] I love the fact that it's quite moisturizing and light but it still has good pigmentation and wear-time. The formula is smooth and feels nice on the lips but I wish it were just a liiiiiiiiiiiittle bit more opaque. I guess that just leaves room for layering with either a lipliner or a gloss. I like to wear Mythic on it's own for a nice neutral nude lip look, but I particularly like to pair it with Chanel's lipliner in Peche, and Chanel's gloss in Insouciance for a more complex and polished peachy nude lip.

Yeah I know- $35 is super pricey for one lipstick. You can buy a similar lipstick from MAC for $16. You could even buy a lipstick from Revlon similar to Mythic for about $8. But the packaging is beautiful, and it's just fun to have a cute little mechanism like this in your bag. And of course, it's Chanel :] Who doesn't love Chanel!? I think that though it's totally not necessary to own lots of Rouge Allures, it is good to splurge on a few, especially if you're a makeup collector/connoisseur like so many of us are. If you want a cheaper alternative to Chanel's Mythic, check out MAC's lipsticks in Creme d'Nude and High Tea, or if you're looking for a drug-store alternative, I would say that Revlon's Colorburst lipstick in Soft Nude is kinda similar, though a little bit lighter.

Are you into nudes? What's your favorite? Do you like Chanel's Rouge Allure formula? Let me know what you think :]

(I used a picture of the lipstick that I found on Google, and I've sourced the link below...)
